Gadsden State has developed a two-year associate in applied science degree program in automotive manufacturing technology, with a core curriculum focusing on electronics, troubleshooting, programmable logic controllers and robotic welding. The mission of this degree program is to provide well-prepared, multi-skilled individuals who can perform troubleshooting and technical work to minimize downtime in the manufacturing process. It is not geared to produce assembly line employees, but focuses on electronic and automation technicians.

The associate in applied science degree in automotive manufacturing technology is a 76-hour degree program that incorporates a minimum of 22 general education hours, 21 general technical core hours and 33 hours of technical electives. A 43-hour and a 29-hour automotive manufacturing technology certificate also are offered.

Additionally, Gadsden State has developed the Focused Industry Training Program, which results in an Alabama Certified Worker status for those who successfully complete it. Also certified by the U.S. Department of Labor, this program is aimed at meeting the entry-level employee needs of automotive assembly operations and their suppliers in the area.

Gadsden State’s Technical Division offers Associate Degree and Certificate programs in many vocational fields, as described in the Higher Education link. Click here for course descriptions: http://www.gadsdenstate.edu.
